Decluttering and ridding yourself of unnecessary things can be a cathartic experience and help bring a sense of organization and zen to both your environment and your mental state. But, can decluttering also bring some other surprising benefits your way?
How about weight loss? According to Peter Walsh, author of Lose the Clutter, Lose the Weight: The Six-Week Total-Life Slim Down, this is completely possible.
In a Good Morning America segment this morning, the philosophy behind this concept was revealed. Through Walsh’s research, he followed a few volunteers who went through an organization makeover and removed clutter from their environments…then they embarked on their weight loss journey, which ended in positive results.
In a nutshell, Walsh believes that when you declutter your physical space, you can mentally focus on other factors, such as weight loss. In addition, the organization of your space leads to better time management, which frees up time for food preparation, exercise, etc.
Seems logical, right?
The limitations are, of course, that just because you declutter, it doesn’t mean the pounds will melt off your body. (This isn’t magic or a gimmick, folks!) Instead, you need to make a commitment to the weight loss and devise and execute a plan. The decluttering – well, that’s a way to prepare yourself for the weight loss journey.
So, consider this. If you want to lose weight, thin out your life, and get a little “lighter” overall, consider decluttering.
